The idea is that Lana encounters many strange magics in the Fairy Tail world, and that more often than not, these spells are casted on her(to sort of balance out her being a little overpowered, plus it's funny). 

She can sometimes handle it herself such as when it is only gained weight in certain parts of her body. But when her body is turned or trapped into something else all she can do is fly away to her nearest friend usually and hopefully Erza, because she's dependable, and other people(mostly natsu) would probably laugh their butt off if they saw her in that state
